Wear your jeans, denim jackets, or denim purses in an effort to raise awareness about consent.
Consent is not the absence of no. Consent must be a clear and sober “yes”.
A person under the influence of drugs and alcohol cannot give consent. A person who is coerced is not consenting.
Denim Day began in 1998 when the Italian Supreme Court overthrew a rape conviction. The justices believed that the victim’s tight jeans could not have been removed without her assistance, implying consent. Since then, Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.
