Counseling

The Purple Door employs a team of counselors who hold a master’s degree in counseling that provide counseling, wellness and support, and empowerment to women, children, and men who are or have experienced domestic violence and/or sexual violence. The Purple Door’s counseling services are available to those who reside in our safe shelter and for those who do not:

• Counseling (individual/group)
• Counseling for secondary victims of domestic and/or sexual violence
• Safety planning
• Dynamics of family and sexual violence
• Dynamics of those who use battering behavior
• Cycle of violence and building healthy relationships
• Play therapy (children ages 6 and older)
• Counseling offered in a safe, public location within our 12-county service area.

Turning Points
This psychoeducational group provides curriculum that defines the different types of abuse, social norms that support intimate partner violence, affects caused from trauma, what the state allows in regard to self-defense, and finally discusses how humans respond, resist, cope, and survive abuse.

Parenting
This multi-week curriculum provides clients with knowledge and techniques survivors can implement while promoting healthy practices in raising their children in a safe environment.

YIELD for Women
This court referral group is a pre-trial service that provides an in-depth study of the history of domestic violence, healthy coping and communicating strategies, how to respectfully voice your needs while ensuring that all involved are safe, and how to effectively share and address your emotions.

Domestic Violence 101
Domestic Violence 101 (DV 101) is a course to empower women in learning the dynamics of domestic violence, how to identify red flags within an intimate relationship, and learn healthy relationship skills.

Support Group
This process group provides an open forum where clients are encouraged to stay in the “here and now” while addressing current challenges caused by a history of trauma and abuse.
Open Group: Tuesday 6-7 PM

Intentional Creativity Art Classes
This group utilizes all mediums of art to tell a story. Creating with intention is working with mindfulness in whatever clients set their hands to do.
